Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly analyze and underwrite mortgage loan applications, including credit, capacity, collateral, and character assessments.
- Verify accuracy of financial documents such as income statements, tax returns, and asset statements.
- Ensure all loan applications comply with internal policies, credit guidelines, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI, FNMA, FHLMC).
- Communicate effectively with mortgage specialists, brokers, and applicants to gather additional information or clarify discrepancies.
- Assess risk factors associated with each loan application and make informed decisions to approve, suspend, or decline loans.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate loan files, documenting all underwriting decisions and rationales.
- Stay updated on industry trends, economic conditions, and changes in mortgage lending regulations.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of direct mortgage underwriting experience.
- Proficiency in credit analysis and financial statement review.
- Deep understanding of mortgage lending products, guidelines, and regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and manage a high-volume pipeline effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with various loan origination systems (LOS) and automated underwriting systems (AUS).
- Familiarity with the Kamloops, British Columbia real estate market.
