Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive diagnostic tests to accurately identify mechanical and electrical issues in various small engines.
- Conduct thorough repairs, precise replacements, and routine preventative maintenance on a wide array of outdoor power equipment, including but not limited to lawnmowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, generators, pressure washers, and string trimmers.
- Skillfully disassemble and reassemble engines and their components, meticulously analyzing parts for wear, damage, or malfunction, and replacing faulty parts with high-quality alternatives.
- Precisely adjust ignition systems, carburetors, fuel injection systems, and other critical components to ensure optimal engine performance and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all services performed, parts utilized, and time spent on each repair job.
- Advise customers on proper equipment operation, routine maintenance schedules, and best practices for extending equipment lifespan.
- Ensure a consistently clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Proactively order necessary parts, supplies, and specialized tools as needed to maintain efficient workflow.
- Stay updated on emerging engine technologies, repair techniques, and industry best practices through continuous learning and training.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Small Engine Mechanic or similar role (minimum 3 years).
- Exceptional diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities for 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and specialized diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction.
- Physical ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
- Understanding of basic electrical systems related to small engines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized technical or vocational school in small engine repair or a related field.
- Experience with specific major brands such as Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Honda, Kawasaki, and Husqvarna.
- Basic computer literacy for accessing repair data, diagnostic software, and maintaining digital records.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
