Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions.
  • Operate and interpret data from complex medical equipment, such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, and IV pumps.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
  • Perform advanced nursing procedures, including airway management, central line care, and wound care.
  • Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring timely documentation of all care provided.
  • Respond rapidly and effectively to changes in patient condition, initiating emergency protocols as needed.
  • Participate in daily rounds, providing updates on patient status and contributing to multidisciplinary care discussions.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including infection control and patient safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Minnesota
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience considered
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or critical care setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) credential
  • Experience with various critical care subspecialties (e.g., medical, surgical, neurological ICU)
  • Experience with advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • Professional membership in critical care nursing organizations (e.g., AACN)
