Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for therapeutic effects and adverse reactions.
- Operate and interpret data from complex medical equipment, such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, and IV pumps.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
- Perform advanced nursing procedures, including airway management, central line care, and wound care.
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, ensuring timely documentation of all care provided.
- Respond rapidly and effectively to changes in patient condition, initiating emergency protocols as needed.
- Participate in daily rounds, providing updates on patient status and contributing to multidisciplinary care discussions.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including infection control and patient safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Minnesota
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with relevant experience considered
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or critical care setting
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) credential
- Experience with various critical care subspecialties (e.g., medical, surgical, neurological ICU)
- Experience with advanced hemodynamic monitoring
- Professional membership in critical care nursing organizations (e.g., AACN)
