Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Part-Time Basketball Coach to join our network of talented professionals in St. Joseph, Missouri. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who possesses a deep love for basketball, a passion for developing young talent, and a commitment to fostering a positive and competitive athletic environment. As a Basketball Coach, you will play a pivotal role in guiding student-athletes, teaching fundamental and advanced basketball techniques, and instilling critical life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

You will be responsible for creating and implementing engaging practice plans, developing game strategies, and providing constructive feedback to help players reach their full potential. This role demands excellent communication skills, both with players and their parents/guardians, as well as with fellow coaching staff and athletic department personnel. We are looking for a coach who can inspire confidence, lead by example, and build strong relationships within the team and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive practice plans focused on skill development, strategic understanding, and team cohesion.
  • Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team events, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Teach fundamental and advanced basketball techniques, game strategies, and conditioning principles.
  • Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, respect, and academic achievement.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, fellow coaches, and athletic administration regarding team progress, player development, and logistical information.
  • Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with all athletic regulations, school policies, and safety standards.
  • Manage team equipment and facilities responsibly.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in coaching basketball at any competitive level (youth, high school, club, collegiate)
  • Strong understanding of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
  • Collegiate playing experience
  • Previous experience as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach at the high school level or higher
  • Knowledge of player development programs and strength & conditioning principles specific to basketball
