Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Transport Planner to join our dynamic team in Solihull. As a Transport Planner, you will be instrumental in optimising our operational efficiency, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of goods across our network. You will be responsible for creating and managing daily transport plans, allocating resources effectively, and proactively addressing any logistical challenges that arise. This role demands excellent geographical knowledge, strong communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service and compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute daily transport plans, optimising routes and schedules for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Allocate vehicles and drivers, ensuring compliance with relevant transport regulations (e.g., Working Time Directive, drivers’ hours).
  • Monitor real-time progress of deliveries, proactively addressing and resolving any issues such as delays, breakdowns, or route deviations.
  • Liaise effectively with drivers, clients, and internal departments to provide updates and resolve queries.
  • Utilise transport planning software and systems to analyse data, identify trends, and implement improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of transport activities, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery performance.
  • Ensure all transport operations comply with health and safety standards and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Transport Planner in a similar logistics or haulage environment (minimum 3 years).
  • Strong understanding of transport regulations, including drivers’ hours and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) and route optimisation software.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively at all levels.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific industry-standard planning software.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage (National).
