You will be responsible for creating and managing daily transport plans, allocating resources effectively, and proactively addressing any logistical challenges that arise. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute daily transport plans, optimising routes and schedules for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers, ensuring compliance with relevant transport regulations (e.g., Working Time Directive, drivers’ hours).
- Monitor real-time progress of deliveries, proactively addressing and resolving any issues such as delays, breakdowns, or route deviations.
- Liaise effectively with drivers, clients, and internal departments to provide updates and resolve queries.
- Utilise transport planning software and systems to analyse data, identify trends, and implement improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of transport activities, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery performance.
- Ensure all transport operations comply with health and safety standards and company policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Transport Planner in a similar logistics or haulage environment (minimum 3 years).
- Strong understanding of transport regulations, including drivers’ hours and vehicle maintenance requirements.
- Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) and route optimisation software.
- Excellent geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively at all levels.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with specific industry-standard planning software.
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage (National).
