Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Line Cook Apprentice to join our culinary team in Ambleside, West Vancouver. As a Line Cook Apprentice, you will be an integral part of our kitchen operations, contributing to the preparation of high-quality meals while adhering to strict health and safety standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior chefs with daily food preparation, including washing, chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients.
  • Learn and execute basic cooking techniques such as grilling, sautéing, frying, and baking under supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned and stored.
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines strictly, including proper handling and storage of food items.
  • Support the kitchen team during service, helping with plating and expediting dishes as required.
  • Monitor ingredient inventory and communicate needs to the kitchen management.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, actively participating in kitchen tasks and learning opportunities.
  • Adhere to recipes and portion control standards to ensure consistency and minimize waste.
  • Participate in kitchen cleaning duties at the end of shifts, including washing dishes, pots, and pans.

Required Skills

  • Eagerness to learn and a strong passion for cooking and the culinary arts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations and culinary terminology (an asset).
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and work in a hot environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a culinary arts program.
  • Prior experience in a kitchen setting (even volunteer or home cooking experience).
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods and ingredients.
