Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately dispense prescribed medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Process prescriptions, including data entry, label generation, and packaging.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications, and identifying expired drugs.
  • Assist patients with medication inquiries, provide counseling on over-the-counter products, and offer general health advice.
  • Maintain accurate patient profiles and uphold strict confidentiality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, national, and company policies, procedures, and regulations (e.g., GPhC standards).
  • Prepare and compound medications, including sterile and non-sterile products, as required.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment.
  • Handle cash transactions, manage till operations, and process insurance claims.
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, other technicians, and healthcare providers to optimize patient care.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a community or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy dispensing software and basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing and record-keeping.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical products, dosages, and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced IT skills, including experience with specific pharmacy management systems (e.g., RxWeb, Analyst).
  • Experience with automated dispensing systems.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Additional certifications in specialised areas (e.g., immunisation support, advanced compounding).
  • Experience in a customer-facing role within a healthcare environment.
