Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated and skilled Digital Forensics Analyst to join our expanding team in Sunderland. In this crucial role, you will be at the forefront of identifying, preserving, analyzing, and presenting digital evidence related to cybersecurity incidents, data breaches, and various digital investigations. You will be instrumental in helping our clients understand the ‘who, what, when, where, and why’ of incidents, turning raw data into actionable intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive digital forensic investigations on a variety of platforms including desktops, servers, mobile devices, and cloud environments.
  • Utilize industry-standard forensic tools (e.g., EnCase, FTK, X-Ways, Autopsy) to acquire, preserve, and analyze digital evidence.
  • Perform malware analysis and reverse engineering to understand threat actor tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Identify, collect, and document digital artifacts, logs, and network traffic for evidence reconstruction.
  • Develop detailed forensic reports and provide expert testimony or clear technical explanations to non-technical audiences.
  • Assist in incident response activities, providing rapid analysis and containment strategies during active breaches.
  • Stay current with the latest cybersecurity threats, forensic techniques, and legal requirements pertaining to digital evidence.
  • Collaborate with legal teams, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to ensure proper handling and chain of custody of evidence.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of forensic methodologies, tools, and processes.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in digital forensics and incident response (DFIR).
  • Strong understanding of operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), file systems, and networking protocols.
  • Proficiency with forensic acquisition and analysis tools (e.g., EnCase, FTK Imager, Wireshark, Volatility).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation and data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding of legal and regulatory requirements related to digital evidence (e.g., GDPR, PACE).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, or a related field.
  • Industry certifications such as GCFE, GCFA, GNFA, CISSP, or EnCE.
  • Experience with cloud forensics (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized environments.
  • Familiarity with e-discovery processes and tools.
  • Experience in reverse engineering malware or analyzing sophisticated attack techniques.
