You will be expected to produce high-quality written articles, as well as contribute to visual and audio content, leveraging modern journalistic tools and techniques. This includes shooting and editing short video clips, recording audio for podcasts or radio segments, and capturing impactful photographs to accompany your stories. Key Responsibilities
- Research, investigate, and report on local, national, and sometimes international news stories and current events relevant to Mauritius.
- Conduct interviews with sources, experts, and community members to gather accurate and comprehensive information.
- Write clear, concise, and engaging articles, features, and reports suitable for various platforms (print, online, social media).
- Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within the community and relevant sectors.
- Produce multimedia content, including photographs, video clips, and audio recordings, to enhance storytelling.
- Verify facts, data, and information through credible sources to ensure accuracy and impartiality.
- Adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, standards, and legal guidelines.
- Collaborate with editors, photographers, videographers, and other team members on story development and content production.
- Stay informed about current events, trends, and developments in the local and global media landscape.
- Participate in editorial meetings, pitching story ideas, and contributing to content strategy.
- Utilize social media and digital platforms to disseminate news and engage with audiences effectively.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and French (Creole is a strong asset).
- Proven ability to research, gather, and verify information from multiple sources.
- Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in producing multimedia content (photography, basic video/audio editing).
- Demonstrated understanding of journalistic ethics and media law.
