Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting and decorating by cleaning, scraping, sanding, and filling holes and cracks.
- Apply paint, varnish, wallpaper, and other finishes using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding and ladders safely.
- Protect furniture and surrounding areas from paint splatters and damage.
- Estimate material and time requirements for projects.
- Mix and match colours to clients' specifications or to achieve desired effects.
- Inspect finished surfaces for quality and address any imperfections.
- Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively with clients and team members regarding project progress and requirements.
- Clean up work areas and tools upon completion of tasks, maintaining a tidy and organised workspace.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Painter and Decorator.
- Proficiency in surface preparation techniques (e.g., sanding, filling, plastering minor repairs).
- Expertise in applying various paints, varnishes, stains, and wallpapers.
- Strong understanding of colour theory and aesthetics to achieve desired finishes.
- Ability to work neatly, precisely, and efficiently with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent physical stamina and manual dexterity, capable of prolonged standing and lifting.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and best practices in the construction industry.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality, flawless finishes.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interactions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., SVQ/NVQ in Painting and Decorating).
- Valid UK driving licence and access to reliable transportation.
- Experience with specialist finishes or decorative techniques (e.g., Venetian plaster, murals, marbling).
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
