Job Description
Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join dynamic and inclusive school environments located in the bustling Docks area of Cardiff. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in delivering tailored support to students across various age groups and key stages. Your daily activities will involve working closely with class teachers to implement individual education plans (IEPs), adapting learning materials, and creating an engaging, accessible, and nurturing classroom atmosphere. You will be instrumental in fostering a positive learning experience, building confidence, and promoting independence among students with a range of SEN, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), specific learning difficulties (SpLD) such as dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with Special Educational Needs, under the direction of the class teacher.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and differentiated learning activities.
- Adapt learning materials and resources to meet the specific needs of students.
- Support students with communication, social skills, and emotional regulation.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians.
- Assist with personal care needs where required, maintaining dignity and respect.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, therapists, and other support staff.
- Supervise students during break times, extra-curricular activities, and school trips.
- Attend and contribute to meetings related to student progress and development.
Required Skills
- Proven experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs.
- Understanding of various SEN conditions (e.g., ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, SEMH).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport.
- Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Resilience and adaptability in challenging situations.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Preferred Qualifications
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
- Relevant qualifications in child care, education, or psychology.
- Experience using Makaton, PECS, or other communication aids.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of the Welsh education system and curriculum.
