Career.zycto is excited to be recruiting on behalf of a network of secondary schools across Stoke-on-Trent who are actively seeking dedicated and adaptable Cover Supervisors. As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of learning when a teacher is absent, ensuring that students remain engaged and on task with pre-prepared work.
This ‘flexible time’ role offers the chance to work across various school environments, providing a rich and diverse experience. You’ll have the autonomy to choose days that suit your schedule, making it ideal for those balancing other commitments or simply desiring a varied week. You will be responsible for supervising classes, managing student behaviour in line with school policies, and supporting students in their learning by delivering pre-set tasks. While you won’t be expected to plan lessons or teach new material, your ability to command a classroom, build rapport with students, and maintain a positive learning atmosphere will be paramount.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise classes during the short-term absence of the regular teacher, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.
- Deliver pre-prepared work and instructions to students, ensuring they understand the tasks and remain on track.
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively, maintaining discipline in accordance with the school's policies and procedures.
- Respond to student questions and provide support to help them complete their work, without teaching new material.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, encouraging student engagement and respect.
- Liaise with teaching staff and school administration regarding student progress, behaviour, and any incidents.
- Ensure the safeguarding and well-being of all students under your care.
- Adhere to all school policies, including those relating to health and safety, data protection, and confidentiality.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport with students and staff.
- Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain discipline and focus.
- Adaptability, resilience, and a proactive approach to challenges.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently.
- A genuine interest in supporting young people's education and development.
- An Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one prior to employment).
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with young people (e.g., teaching assistant, youth worker, sports coach).
- A degree in any subject, though not essential.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- First Aid qualification.
