Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient conditions and develop individualized care plans in the pre-operative phase.
- Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized and readily available.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgical procedures, anticipating needs and ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Maintain and monitor strict sterile fields and aseptic techniques throughout all procedures to prevent infection.
- Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed, documenting all actions meticulously.
- Continuously monitor patient vital signs, level of consciousness, and physiological responses during surgery.
- Handle and account for surgical instruments, sponges, and sharps to ensure patient safety.
- Provide clear, concise communication with the entire surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other nurses.
- Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and draping.
- Document all aspects of patient care, observations, and interventions accurately and timely in electronic health records.
- Respond effectively and calmly to emergency situations within the operating room.
- Participate in post-operative patient handovers, ensuring continuity of care.
Required Skills
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as an Operating Room Nurse.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in sterile technique and surgical procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) certification.
- Experience with various surgical specialties (e.g., general, orthopedic, neuro, vascular).
- Familiarity with Epic or other major electronic health record (EHR) systems.
