Job Description

Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook Assistant to join our culinary team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who wishes to develop their skills alongside experienced chefs, contributing to the creation of delicious and culturally significant meals for our esteemed guests. As a Cook Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our kitchen, supporting our cooks and chefs in preparing ingredients, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow. You will be involved in various aspects of food production, from chopping vegetables to assisting with plating, learning different cooking techniques, and understanding kitchen hygiene standards. We are looking for someone who is reliable, a quick learner, possesses a strong work ethic, and has a genuine interest in culinary arts. This position requires a proactive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced setting. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist chefs and cooks with food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and dicing ingredients.
  • Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes and chef instructions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen workstation, including countertops, utensils, and equipment.
  • Assist in the washing and sanitization of dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen tools.
  • Support in the proper storage of food items, ensuring adherence to hygiene and safety standards.
  • Help with inventory management, including receiving deliveries and rotating stock.
  • Learn and follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Assist with basic cooking tasks under supervision, such as grilling, frying, or boiling.
  • Prepare simple dishes as directed by the head chef or senior cooks.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of kitchen operations and food preparation.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Physical stamina and ability to stand for long periods and lift moderate weights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (at least 6 months) in a kitchen or food service environment.

  • Understanding of traditional Basotho cuisine.
  • Basic proficiency in English and Sesotho.
