Key Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms for dental procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are sterile and readily available.
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including restorative, surgical, endodontic, and preventative care.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as instructed by the dentist, ensuring patient safety and diagnostic quality.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment thoroughly following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including dental charting, treatment plans, and medical histories, using practice management software.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, post-operative care, and treatment plans in a clear and compassionate manner.
- Manage appointment scheduling, patient intake, and coordinate referrals as needed.
- Monitor and maintain dental supply inventory, placing orders as required to ensure smooth clinic operation.
- Provide direct patient care and support, making patients feel comfortable and at ease before, during, and after procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the dental team and overall practice goals.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program
- Current Alabama Dental Radiography certification (or ability to obtain quickly)
- CPR certification
- Proficiency in dental terminology and procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience as a Dental Assistant in a general dentistry setting
- Experience with Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar dental practice management software
- Expanded functions dental assistant (EFDA) certification
- Knowledge of insurance billing and coding practices
