Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment rooms for dental procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are sterile and readily available.
  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including restorative, surgical, endodontic, and preventative care.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as instructed by the dentist, ensuring patient safety and diagnostic quality.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment thoroughly following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, including dental charting, treatment plans, and medical histories, using practice management software.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, post-operative care, and treatment plans in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Manage appointment scheduling, patient intake, and coordinate referrals as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain dental supply inventory, placing orders as required to ensure smooth clinic operation.
  • Provide direct patient care and support, making patients feel comfortable and at ease before, during, and after procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the dental team and overall practice goals.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting program
  • Current Alabama Dental Radiography certification (or ability to obtain quickly)
  • CPR certification
  • Proficiency in dental terminology and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience as a Dental Assistant in a general dentistry setting
  • Experience with Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar dental practice management software
  • Expanded functions dental assistant (EFDA) certification
  • Knowledge of insurance billing and coding practices
