Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Distribution Center Manager to lead the operations of a dynamic distribution center in Downsview, Toronto. As the Distribution Center Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse operations, including inbound and outbound logistics, inventory management, order fulfillment, shipping, and receiving. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective flow of goods, while upholding the highest standards of quality and customer service. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in optimizing distribution processes, managing large teams, and implementing best practices in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all daily distribution center operations, including receiving, warehousing, order picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
- Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies and procedures to ensure optimal efficiency, productivity, and safety compliance.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of warehouse staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
- Manage inventory accuracy through robust cycle counting programs, regular audits, and effective use of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, order accuracy, inventory turns, and labor productivity, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., sales, procurement, transportation) to optimize supply chain processes and meet customer demands.
- Manage the distribution center budget, controlling operational costs and identifying opportunities for savings.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, applying Lean methodologies and other best practices to enhance operational effectiveness and reduce waste.
- Oversee maintenance of warehouse equipment and facilities, ensuring optimal working conditions.
- Prepare regular reports on distribution center performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in distribution or warehouse management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing large-scale distribution center operations.
- Proficiency with modern Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and supply chain software.
- Strong understanding of logistics, inventory control, and supply chain best practices.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with automated warehousing systems.
