Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Bookkeeper to join our dedicated finance team in Quatre Bornes. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management of financial records, ensuring strict adherence to accounting principles and local regulatory compliance. You will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity of our financial data, performing daily accounting operations, and preparing accurate financial statements that support critical business decisions. Your responsibilities will span across managing accounts payable and receivable, performing reconciliations, and contributing to month-end and year-end closing processes. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledgers, journals, and trial balances.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable efficiently, ensuring timely payments to vendors and collection of outstanding debts.
  • Perform regular bank, credit card, and other balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for management review.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT, PAYE, NPF, and other statutory returns, ensuring compliance with Mauritian tax laws.
  • Manage payroll processing, including calculation of salaries, deductions, and timely disbursement.
  • Support the finance team during month-end and year-end closing procedures, preparing necessary reports and adjustments.
  • Liaise with external auditors by providing necessary documentation and explanations during audit engagements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial information and uphold ethical standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Bookkeeper or in a similar accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping procedures and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP Business One.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
  • Partial professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or working towards it.
  • Familiarity with Mauritian tax regulations and financial reporting standards (IFRS).
  • Experience within the financial services, corporate services, or professional services industry.
