As a Farm Equipment Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of various farm machinery. Your day-to-day activities will involve assisting experienced technicians with routine maintenance, minor repairs, and operational checks on a diverse fleet of equipment, including tractors, planters, cultivators, harvesters, and irrigation systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of farm machinery and equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks on various farm vehicles and implements.
  • Perform routine tasks such as lubrication, fluid level checks, tire pressure adjustments, and basic cleaning of equipment.
  • Learn to identify potential mechanical issues and report them promptly to supervisors.
  • Assist in assembling and disassembling farm equipment parts as needed.
  • Support the preparation of equipment for planting, harvesting, and other seasonal operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop and equipment storage area.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while working with machinery and in the workshop.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools safely and effectively under supervision.
  • Participate actively in all provided training sessions and demonstrate a commitment to learning.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of mechanical principles (advantageous but not mandatory, as training is provided).
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and technologies.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working on a farm or with any type of machinery (e.g., motorbikes, vehicles) is a plus.
  • Valid driving license (Class G or higher) would be an advantage but not essential for initial entry.
  • Technical training or certification in automotive mechanics or agriculture is a bonus.
