Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain firmware for embedded systems and new hardware products.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to define system specifications and ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
  • Implement and optimize low-level drivers, communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, USB), and real-time operating system (RTOS) components.
  • Perform extensive debugging, testing, and validation of firmware to ensure robust performance and reliability.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to the technical roadmap of embedded software.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Document firmware designs, code, and test procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to hardware-software interactions.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies in embedded systems development.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development.
  • Strong experience with various microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, PIC, ESP32).
  • Hands-on experience with RTOS concepts and implementation (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, bare-metal).
  • Solid understanding of hardware-software interfaces and debugging techniques (JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
  • Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi.
  • Ability to read schematics and datasheets.
  • Version control expertise (Git).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with Python scripting for testing, automation, or build systems.
  • Familiarity with IoT technologies and cloud connectivity.
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) concepts.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset for working in Quebec.
