As a Geotechnical Helper, you will be an integral part of our site investigation teams, supporting experienced engineers and technicians in conducting crucial fieldwork. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist geotechnical engineers and technicians with all aspects of site investigations, including fieldwork and sampling.
  • Help set up, operate, and maintain various drilling and sampling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Accurately collect, label, and log soil and rock samples from boreholes and trial pits.
  • Conduct in-situ tests, such as Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) and Cone Penetration Tests (CPT), under direct supervision.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of field equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Meticulously record and document field data, observations, and measurements.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies on site.
  • Assist with the safe transportation of equipment and samples to and from project sites and the laboratory.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, site personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of site reports and project documentation as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in civil engineering, geology, or construction.
  • Ability to work effectively and safely outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to lift and carry equipment.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate data recording.
  • Excellent work ethic, punctuality, and a strong willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and at least one Science subject.
  • Some prior experience in a physical, outdoor, or construction-related role.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Basic knowledge of geological terms or soil mechanics.
  • First Aid certification.
