As a Geotechnical Helper, you will be an integral part of our site investigation teams, supporting experienced engineers and technicians in conducting crucial fieldwork. Key Responsibilities
- Assist geotechnical engineers and technicians with all aspects of site investigations, including fieldwork and sampling.
- Help set up, operate, and maintain various drilling and sampling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Accurately collect, label, and log soil and rock samples from boreholes and trial pits.
- Conduct in-situ tests, such as Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) and Cone Penetration Tests (CPT), under direct supervision.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of field equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Meticulously record and document field data, observations, and measurements.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies on site.
- Assist with the safe transportation of equipment and samples to and from project sites and the laboratory.
- Communicate effectively with team members, site personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of site reports and project documentation as required.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in civil engineering, geology, or construction.
- Ability to work effectively and safely outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Good physical fitness and ability to lift and carry equipment.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate data recording.
- Excellent work ethic, punctuality, and a strong willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and at least one Science subject.
- Some prior experience in a physical, outdoor, or construction-related role.
- Full UK Driving License.
- Basic knowledge of geological terms or soil mechanics.
- First Aid certification.
