Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive human factors analysis, including task analysis, function allocation, and cognitive workload assessment for complex systems.
  • Design and execute rigorous usability studies, user interviews, surveys, and focus groups to gather robust user feedback and requirements.
  • Develop detailed human-system interface (HSI) specifications, design guidelines, and human performance metrics to inform system development.
  • Evaluate existing and proposed systems, products, and processes for human factors compliance, safety, and overall user-friendliness.
  • Provide expert human factors guidance and recommendations to multidisciplinary engineering and design teams throughout the entire product development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive test plans and procedures, conducting human-in-the-loop testing and collecting relevant performance data.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and technical documentation summarizing human factors findings, analyses, and design implications.
  • Stay abreast of current human factors research, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory standards (e.g., DoD, FAA, medical device standards).
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively promote a human-centered design philosophy and culture within the organization.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in human factors engineering principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with usability testing, user research, and data analysis techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to translate research into actionable design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for technical documentation and stakeholder presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with relevant software tools for prototyping, data analysis, or simulation (e.g., MATLAB, R, SPSS, Figma, Sketch).
  • Solid knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and cognitive psychology as they relate to human performance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics, Cognitive Psychology, or a closely related technical field.
  • Prior experience working within aerospace, defense, medical devices, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1472, MIL-HDBK-46855) or FAA guidelines for human factors.
  • Experience with human-in-the-loop simulation environments and related data collection/analysis.
  • Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) or equivalent professional certification.
