Key Responsibilities

  • Research, investigate, and report on local news stories and events across various beats, including politics, business, community, and culture.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with sources, experts, and community members to gather accurate and relevant information.
  • Write clear, concise, and compelling news articles, features, and investigative reports suitable for print and digital platforms.
  • Fact-check all information, data, and quotes to ensure accuracy and adherence to journalistic standards.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts within the community to generate leads and uncover new stories.
  • Collaborate with editors, photographers, and videographers to produce comprehensive and engaging multimedia content.
  • Attend press conferences, public meetings, and community events as required.
  • Meet strict deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Adhere to ethical guidelines and legal standards in all journalistic practices.
  • Engage with readers and the community through comments, social media, and direct interactions.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a Journalist, Reporter, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Excellent research and investigative skills.
  • Proficiency in interviewing techniques and source development.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong understanding of journalistic ethics and media law.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience covering local news in New Brunswick or a similar Canadian province.
  • Proficiency with content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools.
