Job Description

ENSafrica Mauritius is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Law Clerk to join our esteemed legal team in Cassis, Port Louis. The successful candidate will play a critical support role, assisting our lawyers and legal professionals in various aspects of legal practice, contributing directly to the efficient operation of our office and the successful resolution of client matters.

As a Law Clerk, you will be deeply involved in the foundational work that underpins our legal services. Your responsibilities will span across comprehensive legal research, drafting and reviewing legal documents, preparing court filings, and managing case files. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of legal terminology and procedures, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our legal team has all the necessary information and documentation at their fingertips, thereby enabling them to deliver superior client service and achieve favorable outcomes.

Beyond direct legal support, this position also encompasses crucial office administration tasks, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our legal department. This includes maintaining organized records, coordinating schedules, and facilitating communication with clients, courts, and other external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive legal research using various databases and resources to support ongoing cases and legal opinions.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and proofreading a wide range of legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, briefs, memorandums, and correspondence.
  • Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files, ensuring all documentation is accurately filed and easily accessible.
  • Prepare and compile documents for court filings, arbitration proceedings, and client meetings.
  • Manage and track deadlines for court submissions, discovery requests, and other critical legal processes.
  • Provide administrative support to lawyers, including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and making travel arrangements.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, court personnel, and external counsel, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the firm’s knowledge management initiatives by updating legal resources and databases.
  • Perform general office duties as required to ensure the efficient operation of the legal department.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in legal research methodologies and tools (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, local legal databases).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively under pressure.
  • Discretion and strict adherence to confidentiality protocols.
  • Foundational understanding of legal principles and terminology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent legal qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Previous experience (internship or employment) of at least one year as a Law Clerk, Paralegal, or in a similar legal support role.
  • Familiarity with Mauritian legal statutes and procedures.
  • Experience with case management software or document management systems.
  • Ability to speak other local languages or creoles (e.g., Mauritian Creole).
