Job Description
We are actively seeking a dedicated and proactive Legal Assistant to join our dynamic team at Kuria, Ndung’u & Company Advocates in Kiambu County. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research and gather relevant case information from various sources.
- Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, contracts, and correspondence.
- Organize and maintain accurate physical and electronic client files, ensuring confidentiality, easy retrieval, and compliance with data protection regulations.
- Schedule appointments, court dates, and meetings, efficiently managing attorneys' calendars and deadlines.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with comprehensive trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, preparing witness lists, and compiling trial binders.
- Manage general office administrative tasks such as answering phones, data entry, photocopying, and processing incoming and outgoing mail.
- Facilitate e-filings and ensure strict compliance with court procedures, rules, and deadlines.
- Prepare concise reports, summaries, and presentations as required by advocates for case analysis and client briefings.
- Provide general administrative and substantive support to the legal team as needed to ensure seamless operations.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Certificate in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar support role within a legal environment.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and databases relevant to Kenyan law (e.g., Laws of Kenya, Kenya Law Reports).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
- Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) for document creation and management.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Prior experience with specialized legal case management software.
- In-depth knowledge of local court procedures, filing systems, and regulatory requirements in Kiambu County.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
