Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize legal department processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Manage legal technology solutions, including e-billing systems, document management, contract lifecycle management, and knowledge management platforms.
- Conduct data analysis and reporting on legal spend, matter management, and operational metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Assist in managing the legal department budget, including forecasting, tracking, and optimizing expenditures.
- Oversee vendor management for external legal service providers, ensuring cost-effectiveness and service quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, Finance, HR) to ensure seamless integration of legal operations with broader business processes.
- Develop and deliver training materials and guidelines for legal tools and processes to internal stakeholders, ensuring widespread adoption and compliance.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging legal technologies to continually drive innovation within the department.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (4+ years) in legal operations, project management, or a similar role within a legal department or law firm.
- Strong understanding of legal technology, including CLM, e-billing, and document management systems.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with all levels of an organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and presentation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with legal compliance and regulatory frameworks, particularly within a Canadian context.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Finance, or a related field; JD is a plus.
- Certification in Legal Project Management (LPM) or similar, such as PMP.
- Experience with specific legal operations software (e.g., Clio, Legal Tracker, SimpleLegal, Onit).
- Knowledge of Canadian legal practices and regulations specific to the Northwest Territories.
- Change management experience, particularly in a legal technology implementation context.
