Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Lighting Technician to join our dynamic Events & Production team at Shanti Maurice Resort & Spa. This pivotal role involves designing, setting up, operating, and maintaining all lighting systems for a wide variety of events held within our luxurious resort premises. From illuminating elegant gala dinners and enchanting outdoor weddings to enhancing live performances and corporate presentations, your expertise will be crucial in creating the perfect ambiance and visual impact that elevates every guest experience.
As a Lighting Technician, you will be responsible for translating event concepts into captivating visual realities. You will work closely with event planners, sound technicians, and other production staff to ensure seamless execution and breathtaking results. This is more than just a technical role; it’s an opportunity to blend artistry with engineering, using light as a medium to evoke emotion and define atmosphere. Key Responsibilities
- Design and program dynamic lighting plots and cues for various events, ensuring they align with event themes and client specifications.
- Set up, rig, and dismantle a wide range of lighting equipment, including intelligent lights, conventional fixtures, LED systems, and control consoles.
- Operate lighting boards and control systems during live events, adapting to unforeseen changes and maintaining optimal visual presentation.
- Conduct routine maintenance, testing, and repairs of all lighting equipment, ensuring optimal functionality and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot technical issues quickly and efficiently during events to minimize disruption.
- Collaborate effectively with sound technicians, video operators, event managers, and other team members to achieve integrated production outcomes.
- Manage inventory of lighting equipment and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, particularly concerning rigging, electrical work, and working at heights.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in event lighting and recommend improvements or upgrades.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior staff or other departments as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience with DMX-based lighting control systems (e.g., GrandMA, Avolites, Hog4).
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, power distribution, and safety protocols for event lighting.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating various lighting fixtures (moving heads, wash lights, spotlights, LED pars).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and event layouts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
- Good physical stamina, capable of lifting heavy equipment and working in various environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetic lighting design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in entertainment technology, stage lighting, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD) for lighting plot design.
- Previous experience working in a luxury hotel, resort, or large-scale event venue.
- Knowledge of other AV disciplines (sound, video) is a plus.
- Fluency in English and French.
