Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Litigation Assistant to join a prestigious legal team in the NDG sector of Montreal. As a Litigation Assistant, you will provide comprehensive administrative and practical support to lawyers involved in various stages of the litigation process, from initial case assessment through to trial and appeal. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and briefs.
- Manage and organize electronic and physical case files, ensuring all documents are accurately categorized and easily retrievable.
- Schedule and coordinate meetings, depositions, court appearances, and travel arrangements for legal counsel.
- Assist with trial preparation, including preparing exhibit binders, witness lists, and trial demonstratives.
- Conduct legal research under the direction of lawyers, utilizing various legal databases and resources.
- Liaise with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, and third parties in a professional and courteous manner.
- Process invoices, expense reports, and manage billing procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and case information.
- Perform general administrative duties as required to support the litigation team.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Litigation Assistant.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
- Strong organizational skills with an exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma/certificate.
- Experience with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, MyCase).
- Familiarity with Quebec civil procedure.
- Experience in specific areas of litigation (e.g., commercial, insurance, personal injury).
