Job Description

The Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) is a crucial frontline role at Career.zycto, tasked with safeguarding our assets, deterring theft, and maintaining a secure environment for everyone within our retail premises in Sardis, Chilliwack. We are actively seeking a vigilant, proactive, and ethically-minded individual to join our growing team immediately. This role demands sharp observational skills, the ability to act decisively under pressure, and a commitment to upholding company policies and legal guidelines.

As an LPO, you will be the eyes and ears of our security operations, utilizing state-of-the-art surveillance equipment and your keen awareness to identify and prevent potential losses due to theft, fraud, and procedural errors. Your primary focus will be on the proactive detection and apprehension of individuals engaged in dishonest activities, while strictly adhering to established legal protocols and company standards regarding non-violent resolution. You will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations, documenting incidents meticulously, and collaborating effectively with store management and local law enforcement when necessary.

Beyond deterring criminal activity, this position also involves contributing to a positive and safe shopping experience for our customers and a secure working environment for our employees. You will occasionally interact with customers and staff, providing assistance and ensuring a visible security presence. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct overt and covert surveillance to identify and deter theft, fraud, and other dishonest acts.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to alarm activations and security incidents.
  • Apprehend individuals suspected of theft in accordance with company policy and legal guidelines, ensuring non-violent resolution.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate incident reports, maintaining detailed records of observations and actions taken.
  • Monitor security cameras and other surveillance equipment to detect and prevent loss.
  • Collaborate with store management, law enforcement, and other agencies as required for investigations and prosecutions.
  • Conduct routine patrols of the premises to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
  • Educate staff on loss prevention awareness and security best practices.
  • Participate in internal investigations related to inventory discrepancies or employee misconduct.
  • Maintain a visible presence to deter undesirable activities and assist customers with inquiries when appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in loss prevention, retail security, or a related field.
  • Valid BC Security License (or ability to obtain one prior to employment).
  • Excellent observational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication for report writing and interpersonal interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
  • Basic computer literacy for report generation and surveillance monitoring.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and occasionally run for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal parameters for apprehension and evidence handling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Criminology, Law Enforcement, or a related discipline.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Previous experience with CCTV systems and alarm monitoring software.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal laws related to retail theft and trespass.
  • Experience in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution.
