Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Music Copyright Coordinator to join our vibrant team in Dallas, Texas. This immediate hire role is critical to our mission of safeguarding intellectual property and ensuring fair usage within the fast-evolving music landscape. As a Music Copyright Coordinator, you will play an instrumental role in managing, monitoring, and protecting the intellectual property rights of our diverse roster of artists and content creators. You will be at the forefront of copyright administration, working closely with legal teams, artists, music publishers, and licensing bodies to ensure compliance and resolve potential infringements.

This position requires a deep understanding of domestic and international copyright laws pertaining to music, a keen eye for detail, and excellent communication skills. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of copyright management, from initial registration and database maintenance to tracking usage, managing licensing agreements, and assisting in the resolution of copyright disputes. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, adept at navigating complex legal frameworks while maintaining strong interpersonal relationships across various stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the accurate registration of musical works and sound recordings with relevant PROs (Performing Rights Organizations), collection societies, and copyright offices globally.
  • Monitor global music usage across various platforms, including digital streaming services, broadcast media, and public performances, to identify potential unauthorized use.
  • Facilitate the clearance and licensing of musical works for various projects, ensuring all necessary agreements and permissions are secured.
  • Research and analyze copyright ownership information, public domain status, and licensing terms to inform strategic decisions.
  • Investigate and escalate potential copyright infringements, collaborating with legal counsel to formulate appropriate responses and resolutions.
  • Maintain and update comprehensive copyright databases and intellectual property records with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Prepare detailed reports on copyright status, licensing activities, and potential risks for internal stakeholders.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for inquiries related to music copyright and licensing from artists, managers, publishers, and external partners.
  • Stay abreast of evolving copyright laws, industry standards, and technological advancements impacting music intellectual property.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for copyright administration and asset management.

Required Skills

  • Proven understanding of U.S. and international copyright law, specifically as it applies to music.
  • Demonstrable experience with music copyright registration processes and intellectual property databases.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database management software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with various music publishing agreements and licensing structures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Business, Legal Studies, Entertainment Law, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in copyright administration within the music, publishing, or entertainment industry.
  • Experience working with digital rights management (DRM) systems or content ID platforms.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards and their application in music.
  • Familiarity with collection societies and PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SoundExchange.
  • Basic understanding of contract review and negotiation principles.
