Job Description
Vulcan Coal Mozambique is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our legal department in Moatize, Tete Province. This full-time, on-site role is critical in supporting our legal team with a wide range of corporate, contractual, and regulatory compliance matters. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing legal documentation, conducting research, and ensuring our operations adhere to local and international legal standards.
As a Paralegal, you will be instrumental in the smooth functioning of our legal operations, providing comprehensive administrative and substantive support. Your daily tasks will involve preparing legal documents, maintaining accurate records, assisting with contract management, and supporting litigation preparedness. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including various departments and senior management, to facilitate legal processes and provide timely advice on compliance issues. Key Responsibilities
- Assist legal counsel with legal research, analysis, and preparation of legal opinions and briefs.
- Manage and organize legal documents, contracts, agreements, and corporate records, ensuring accessibility and confidentiality.
- Draft, review, and proofread legal documents, including correspondence, reports, and internal legal notices.
- Support the legal team in corporate governance matters, including preparing board meeting minutes and resolutions.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with local, national, and international laws and regulations pertinent to mining operations.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel, government bodies, and other stakeholders as required.
- Maintain legal databases and tracking systems for contracts, litigation, and regulatory filings.
- Provide administrative support to the legal department, including scheduling meetings and managing calendars.
- Assist in the preparation and management of litigation documents and discovery processes.
- Facilitate training sessions for employees on legal compliance and company policies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Paralegal or Legal Assistant in a corporate or law firm setting.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Fluency in Portuguese (verbal and written) is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of Mozambican corporate and regulatory law.
- Certification from a recognized paralegal program.
