Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and minimal discomfort for patients of all ages.
  • Accurately identify patients, label specimens, and complete necessary documentation according to established protocols.
  • Maintain strict adherence to universal precautions, infection control policies, and safety standards.
  • Prepare and process collected specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring sample integrity.
  • Provide clear and concise pre- and post-collection instructions to patients.
  • Manage and organize phlebotomy supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, physicians, and laboratory personnel regarding collection procedures and special requirements.
  • Handle patient inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Comply with all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with other laboratory or clinic duties as assigned to support overall operations.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Technician program.
  • Current Phlebotomy certification (e.g., ASCP, AMT, NHA) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician in a clinical setting.
  • Proven proficiency in venipuncture techniques for diverse patient populations.
  • Strong understanding of specimen collection, handling, and processing procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with pediatric and geriatric blood draws.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficiency in multiple venipuncture methods (e.g., butterfly, straight needle, syringe).
  • Experience in an outpatient clinic or hospital setting.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and procedures quickly.
