Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive procurement strategies and policies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of purchasing professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers globally and locally, ensuring competitive pricing and quality.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers to achieve optimal value and cost savings.
  • Manage supplier relationships, monitoring performance against key metrics and resolving issues promptly.
  • Oversee inventory levels and stock management to ensure optimal availability and minimize waste.
  • Implement and manage risk mitigation strategies within the supply chain.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Finance, Sales) to understand procurement needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in purchasing processes and systems.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on procurement performance, cost savings, and market trends to senior management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in procurement, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic sourcing, vendor management, and contract negotiation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to interpret complex data.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience in team development and performance management.
  • Deep understanding of supply chain principles and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or MBA in a relevant field.
  • Professional certification such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with diverse international and local supplier bases.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in the Kenyan market.
  • Project management experience.
