Job Description

This full-time role demands a compassionate, highly skilled, and innovative Recreational Therapist to join our dynamic interdisciplinary team here in Burntwood, Thompson. As a vital member of our comprehensive patient care continuum, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs tailored to the diverse needs of our clients across various age groups and health conditions. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive recreational therapy assessments to identify patient needs, interests, and functional abilities.
  • Develop individualized and group treatment plans based on assessment findings, patient goals, and clinical objectives.
  • Design and facilitate a wide range of therapeutic recreation programs, including but not limited to adaptive sports, creative arts, social skills training, community re-integration activities, and leisure education.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers) to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families about the benefits of recreational therapy and strategies for maintaining an active and fulfilling lifestyle post-treatment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during therapeutic activities.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in conducting recreational therapy assessments and developing individualized treatment plans.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, theories, and intervention techniques.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt programs to meet the diverse needs and abilities of clients.
  • Demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness in program design and implementation.
  • Effective documentation and record-keeping abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation or eligibility.
  • Experience working with diverse populations (e.g., geriatrics, mental health, physical rehabilitation, developmental disabilities).
  • Familiarity with local community resources and adaptive equipment.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Bilingualism (English and indigenous languages common in the region) is an asset.
