Job Description
We are urgently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Psychiatric Ward team in Gainesville, Florida. This is a critical opportunity to apply your specialized skills in a challenging yet profoundly rewarding environment, providing direct patient care to individuals experiencing acute and chronic mental health conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including mental status exams and risk assessments.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor for efficacy and adverse reactions, and educate patients on medication regimens.
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and manage behavioral emergencies safely and effectively.
- Observe, document, and report changes in patient behavior, mood, and physical condition accurately and timely.
- Facilitate therapeutic communication and group activities to promote patient engagement and recovery.
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and discharge planning.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and calm environment for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other specialists for holistic patient care.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA).
Required Skills
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, and therapeutic interventions.
- Proficiency in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
- Competency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Current BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Certification (PMH-BC).
- Experience with diverse patient populations and cultural competencies.
- ACLS certification.
