Job Description

Dive Time Zanzibar is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Scuba Diving Support Crew member to join our vibrant team in Ng’ambo, Zanzibar City. This full-time, on-site position is crucial to ensuring the smooth operation of our daily diving and snorkeling excursions. As a Scuba Diving Support Crew member, you will be the backbone of our operations, providing essential assistance to our certified dive instructors and experienced guides, meticulously maintaining equipment, and ensuring our guests have a safe, enjoyable, and truly memorable experience from the moment they arrive at our centre until their departure. Your role is multifaceted and highly engaging, encompassing everything from the precise preparation and efficient loading of dive gear onto our vessels, assisting guests with their equipment setup, to ensuring the overall cleanliness and meticulous organization of our dive centre facilities and boats. You will be instrumental in conducting crucial pre-trip boat checks, diligently verifying the presence and functionality of all safety equipment, and actively monitoring the well-being and comfort of guests throughout all excursions. Furthermore, your support extends to vital logistical tasks such as efficient tank filling, performing minor equipment repairs, and managing inventory to ensure we are always well-stocked and ready for the next adventure. Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified dive instructors and divemasters with all aspects of daily dive and snorkel trips, both on land and aboard the boats.
- Prepare and organize all diving and snorkeling equipment, ensuring it is clean, functional, and properly maintained to the highest standards.
- Efficiently load and unload equipment onto boats, ensuring safe and secure handling at all times.
- Provide exceptional support to guests, assisting with gear setup, comfortable water entry and exit, and addressing general comfort and needs.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip boat checks, ensuring all safety equipment is present, operational, and easily accessible.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the dive centre facilities, boats, and all equipment storage areas.
- Assist with various customer service tasks, including warmly greeting guests, answering basic inquiries, and facilitating sign-ups and departures.
- Actively monitor the well-being and safety of guests on boats and at dive sites, reporting any concerns promptly to the dive leader.
- Handle logistics such as accurate tank filling, performing minor equipment repairs, and assisting with inventory management.
- Adhere strictly to Dive Time Zanzibar's rigorous safety protocols and PADI standards in all operations.
- Support marine conservation efforts and educate guests on responsible diving and snorkeling practices.
Required Skills
- Strong swimming abilities and exceptional comfort and confidence in the water.
- Basic knowledge of scuba diving equipment and fundamental diving procedures.
- Excellent physical fitness and the ability to safely lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 25kg).
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and clear communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a fast-paced team environment.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong, proactive work ethic.
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) for clear communication with international guests and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- PADI Open Water Diver certification or a higher diving qualification.
- Previous experience in a watersports, tourism, or hospitality role, particularly within a marine environment.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Swahili, German, French, Italian).
- Knowledge of local marine life, ecosystems, and basic marine conservation principles.
- Basic boat handling or mariner experience.
