Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding, tailored to individual needs.
  • Administer medication accurately and on schedule, strictly adhering to prescribed guidelines.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and exercises as per care plans and client capabilities.
  • Develop and implement engaging recreational and educational activities to stimulate cognitive and physical abilities.
  • Monitor and record client's health status, behaviors, and progress, reporting any changes or concerns to supervisors and family.
  • Assist with light household duties, meal preparation, and errands to support a clean and organized living environment.
  • Provide emotional support, companionship, and foster social interaction.
  • Collaborate with families, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and holistic care.
  • Maintain a safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment for the client.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with individuals with special needs (e.g., developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to caregiving.
  • Ability to follow detailed care plans and instructions.
  • Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with calm and professionalism.
  • Physical ability to assist clients with mobility and transfers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in a relevant field (e.g., Personal Support Worker, Developmental Services Worker, Home Support Worker).
  • Experience with specific therapeutic techniques or communication methods (e.g., PECS, ASL).
  • Valid Canadian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Previous experience working in a home-care or residential support setting.
  • Multilingual abilities are an asset.
