Job Description

Are you a skilled and dedicated Steel Fixer looking to contribute your expertise to significant construction projects in Rubavu? NPD Ltd is seeking an experienced On-Site Steel Fixer to join our dynamic and growing team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for accurately cutting, bending, and assembling steel bars and mesh to create the reinforcing framework for concrete structures. Your meticulous work will be fundamental to the structural integrity and long-term safety of our buildings and infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and durability as per engineering specifications.

You will work closely with site engineers, project supervisors, and other skilled tradespeople, playing a vital part in the construction process from foundation to the final concrete pour. Key Responsibilities

  • Read and accurately interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and engineering specifications to determine the precise layout, dimensions, and type of steel reinforcement required for various structural elements.
  • Measure, cut, bend, and shape steel bars and mesh to required lengths and angles using various hand tools (e.g., rebar cutters, benders) and power machinery.
  • Assemble and meticulously tie steel bars and mesh together to form reinforcing cages and frameworks for concrete structures, including foundations, columns, beams, walls, and slabs.
  • Ensure all steel reinforcement is correctly positioned, spaced, and securely tied according to structural drawings, building codes, and quality standards.
  • Inspect finished work to verify compliance with engineering specifications, industry best practices, and all relevant safety regulations before concrete pouring.
  • Work efficiently and safely, strictly adhering to all site health and safety procedures, company policies, and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with other construction workers, supervisors, site engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless project progression and resolve any on-site challenges.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring all tools, equipment, and materials are properly stored and maintained.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven, hands-on experience as a Steel Fixer in a reputable construction environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and structural specifications.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of steel fixing tools and equipment, including rebar cutters, benders, and tying tools.
  • Strong understanding of different types of steel reinforcement, their properties, and correct applications in concrete structures.
  • Excellent physical stamina, strength, and manual dexterity, with the ability to perform strenuous tasks and work comfortably in various weather conditions and elevated heights.
  • High level of attention to detail, precision, and accuracy in all tasks to ensure structural integrity.
  • Unwavering commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and strictly following all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Effective communication and strong teamwork skills to collaborate efficiently with a diverse construction team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or a recognized certification in steel fixing, rebar work, or a related construction trade.
  • Prior experience working on large-scale infrastructure, commercial building, or public works projects in Rwanda.
  • Familiarity with Rwandan national construction standards and local building regulations.
  • Ability to mentor and guide less experienced team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
