Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support and guidance to foreign nationals and newcomers to Canada.
- Assist clients with accessing essential services such as housing, employment, education, healthcare, and legal aid.
- Help navigate government programs, application processes, and community resources.
- Conduct needs assessments to identify individual challenges and develop tailored support plans.
- Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure their rights and needs are met within various systems.
- Offer cultural orientation and integration support to help clients adapt to Canadian society.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting all interactions and progress.
- Collaborate with community partners and agencies to enhance service delivery.
- Provide emotional support and active listening to clients facing settlement challenges.
- Facilitate workshops or group sessions on relevant topics for newcomers, such as resume building or understanding Canadian laws.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a support worker, social work, or community outreach role.
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique challenges faced by foreign nationals and newcomers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication.
- Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Resourcefulness in identifying and connecting clients with appropriate community services.
- Cultural sensitivity and competence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Community Services, Human Services, or a related field.
- Proficiency in a second language commonly spoken by newcomer communities (e.g., Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish).
- Familiarity with immigration policies and settlement services in Ontario.
- Experience with case management software or client information systems.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
