Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Full-Time Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic Labor & Delivery team in North Danbury, Danbury. This critical role involves working closely with obstetricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the seamless execution of surgical procedures related to childbirth, including Cesarean sections, circumcisions, and other emergent gynecological interventions within the L&D unit. The successful candidate will be instrumental in preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile fields, handling instruments, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team during both routine and high-stress situations. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring patient safety, procedural efficiency, and the overall positive experience for families bringing new life into the world. Our L&D unit is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment where every team member’s expertise and dedication are paramount. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain sterile operating rooms, ensuring all equipment and supplies are readily available and in working order for obstetric and gynecological procedures.
  • Assist the surgical team during C-sections, circumcisions, and other L&D-related surgeries by anticipating needs, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Perform surgical counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety.
  • Handle surgical specimens correctly and hand them off to appropriate personnel for laboratory analysis.
  • Apply knowledge of surgical asepsis and sterile technique to prevent contamination and infection.
  • Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provide patient comfort and emotional support as appropriate before and after procedures.
  • Participate in team briefings and debriefings to optimize surgical outcomes and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including those pertaining to infection control and patient safety.

Required Skills

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist, with at least 1 year specifically in Labor & Delivery or Women's Health.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques used in obstetric surgery.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Previous experience in a Level III or higher maternal care unit.
