Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technology Transfer Specialist to join our innovative team in Miramichi, New Brunswick. In this pivotal full-time role, you will be instrumental in identifying, evaluating, protecting, and commercializing cutting-edge technologies and intellectual property originating from various research institutions and internal projects. You will serve as a critical bridge between researchers, inventors, industry partners, and investors, orchestrating the complex journey from concept to market. Your daily activities will involve comprehensive intellectual property management, including conducting novelty searches, assessing patentability, and strategizing on protection methods. You will lead market assessments and feasibility studies to determine the commercial viability of new technologies, developing robust commercialization plans that include licensing, spin-out formation, and strategic partnerships.
Key to your success will be your ability to build and nurture strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. You will engage proactively with researchers to understand their innovations, educating them on the technology transfer process. Simultaneously, you will forge connections with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and potential licensees, skillfully negotiating complex agreements such as non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, and intellectual property licenses. Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and assess the commercial potential of new technologies and intellectual property.
- Develop and implement robust commercialization strategies, including licensing, spin-out formation, and strategic partnerships.
- Manage intellectual property portfolios, including conducting novelty searches, patentability assessments, and managing patent prosecution with legal counsel.
- Negotiate and draft complex agreements such as non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, and intellectual property licenses.
- Conduct thorough market research and techno-economic analyses to determine the market readiness and competitive landscape of technologies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with researchers, industry partners, investors, and legal professionals.
- Prepare compelling marketing materials, pitches, and presentations to promote technologies to potential licensees and investors.
- Educate researchers and stakeholders on intellectual property protection and the technology transfer process.
- Monitor technology transfer trends, policies, and best practices to continually enhance Career.zycto's innovation ecosystem.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of internal policies and procedures for technology transfer and commercialization.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (4+ years) in technology transfer, intellectual property management, or business development in a research-intensive environment.
- Solid understanding of intellectual property law (patents, copyrights, trademarks) and licensing principles.
- Demonstrated experience in market assessment, commercialization strategy development, and financial modeling.
- Exceptional negotiation and contract drafting skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strategic mindset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with researchers, industry, and legal professionals.
- Proficiency in project management and working autonomously while collaborating effectively with a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (e.g., Ph.D. in a scientific or engineering discipline, MBA, or Juris Doctor).
- Certification in technology transfer (e.g., RTTP – Registered Technology Transfer Professional).
- Experience with venture capital or start-up incubation.
