Career.zycto is seeking a passionate, visionary, and detail-oriented Urban Planner to join our dynamic team in Victoria, British Columbia. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and evaluate a variety of planning applications, including rezonings, subdivisions, development permits, and official community plan amendments.
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on land use, demographic trends, environmental impacts, and socio-economic factors to inform planning decisions.
- Develop and update official community plans, zoning bylaws, and other policy documents in accordance with provincial legislation and local objectives.
- Lead and facilitate public engagement processes, including workshops, open houses, and presentations to gather community input and build consensus.
- Provide expert planning advice and recommendations to senior staff, elected officials, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, and consultants on interdisciplinary projects.
- Prepare detailed reports, staff recommendations, presentations, and other communication materials.
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other planning software for data analysis and mapping.
- Ensure all planning activities comply with relevant provincial statutes (e.g., Local Government Act), municipal bylaws, and professional standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in urban planning, preferably within a municipal or consulting environment.
- Strong understanding of land use planning principles, zoning bylaws, and the development approvals process.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial analysis and mapping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing and public presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation impacting urban development in British Columbia.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
- Eligible for or holding a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation with the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC).
- Experience with community engagement strategies and facilitation.
- Familiarity with urban design principles and sustainable development practices.
- Proficiency with project management software.
