Job Description

Are you an empathetic, culturally sensitive, and highly motivated individual passionate about empowering young people? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Youth Worker specifically to support foreign youth integrating into the Quispamsis community. This crucial role involves providing comprehensive guidance, resources, and mentorship to help young newcomers navigate their new environment, understand local customs, access educational and employment opportunities, and build a sense of belonging. You will act as a vital bridge, connecting foreign youth with essential services, advocating for their needs, and fostering an inclusive atmosphere where their unique experiences are valued.

This position demands a proactive approach to engaging youth, developing tailored support plans, and facilitating workshops or group activities that promote skill development, cultural exchange, and social integration. You will work closely with families, community organizations, schools, and government agencies to ensure a holistic support system is in place. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to foreign youth, addressing their unique settlement and integration needs.
  • Develop and implement engaging programs and workshops focused on life skills, cultural adaptation, education, and career pathways.
  • Act as a liaison between foreign youth, their families, schools, community services, and other relevant agencies.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of foreign youth, ensuring access to necessary resources and support systems.
  • Assist youth with navigating local systems, including healthcare, housing, employment, and legal processes.
  • Monitor progress, track outcomes, and maintain accurate records of youth interactions and support provided.
  • Collaborate with community partners to identify gaps in services and develop innovative solutions.
  • Organize and facilitate cultural exchange events and activities to promote understanding and community cohesion.
  • Identify and respond to critical incidents, providing crisis intervention and referrals as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with youth, particularly from diverse cultural backgrounds or newcomer communities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with a high degree of empathy and patience.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant and refugee youth in Canada.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with young people and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and facilitate engaging group activities and workshops.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable with digital communication tools.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as program needs dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Social Work, Youth Studies, Education, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to newcomer populations in New Brunswick (e.g., Arabic, Mandarin, Punjabi, Ukrainian, French).
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services in Quispamsis and the greater Saint John area.
  • Experience in case management, mentorship, or career counselling.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
