Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Worker to join our growing team in the beautiful coastal community of Tofo Beach, Inhambane. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver engaging youth development programs and activities, including workshops, sports, arts, and educational sessions.
  • Provide one-on-one mentorship, guidance, and support to young people, addressing their social, emotional, and educational needs.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with youth, their families, and community stakeholders.
  • Identify and respond to the specific needs and challenges faced by young people in Tofo Beach, including issues related to education, employment, health, and well-being.
  • Organize and facilitate community outreach initiatives to engage youth who may be at risk or disengaged.
  • Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and government agencies to enhance program impact and resource sharing.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant engagement, program activities, and outcomes for reporting purposes.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Act as an advocate for young people’s rights and interests within the community.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience working with youth, preferably in a community or educational setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
  • Strong organizational and program management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese (written and spoken) and English.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within Tofo Beach and surrounding areas.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Youth Development, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of local Mozambican culture and community dynamics in Tofo Beach.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Familiarity with local youth-focused policies and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in a local indigenous language (e.g., Gitonga).
