Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Worker to join our growing team in the beautiful coastal community of Tofo Beach, Inhambane. Key Responsibilities
- Design, coordinate, and deliver engaging youth development programs and activities, including workshops, sports, arts, and educational sessions.
- Provide one-on-one mentorship, guidance, and support to young people, addressing their social, emotional, and educational needs.
- Build strong, positive relationships with youth, their families, and community stakeholders.
- Identify and respond to the specific needs and challenges faced by young people in Tofo Beach, including issues related to education, employment, health, and well-being.
- Organize and facilitate community outreach initiatives to engage youth who may be at risk or disengaged.
- Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and government agencies to enhance program impact and resource sharing.
- Maintain accurate records of participant engagement, program activities, and outcomes for reporting purposes.
- Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe, inclusive, and culturally sensitive manner.
- Act as an advocate for young people’s rights and interests within the community.
Required Skills
- Proven experience working with youth, preferably in a community or educational setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly.
- Strong organizational and program management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
- Proficiency in Portuguese (written and spoken) and English.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within Tofo Beach and surrounding areas.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Youth Development, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Knowledge of local Mozambican culture and community dynamics in Tofo Beach.
- Experience in conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques.
- Familiarity with local youth-focused policies and initiatives.
- Proficiency in a local indigenous language (e.g., Gitonga).
