Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain critical server infrastructure (Windows Server, Linux) and virtualised environments (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Manage and optimise cloud environments, specifically Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), including resource deployment, monitoring, and cost management.
  • Ensure the security, integrity, and availability of all systems, implementing best practices for data protection, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and resolve incidents efficiently to minimise downtime and disruption.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash) to streamline routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.
  • Administer and support network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, switches, and VPN solutions, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity.
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and other core infrastructure services.
  • Collaborate with project teams to integrate new technologies and solutions into existing environments.
  • Provide expert-level technical support and guidance to internal teams and, where necessary, to clients.
  • Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement innovative solutions.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role.
  • Proficiency in administering and troubleshooting Windows Server environments (2012 R2, 2016, 2019).
  • Strong experience with virtualization technologies (VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V).
  • Demonstrable experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Firewalls).
  • Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and related services.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Strong commitment to security best practices and data protection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Industry certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS).
  • Familiarity with ITIL framework and service management best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix).
  • Knowledge of storage solutions (SAN, NAS) and backup technologies.
  • Previous experience working in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment.
