Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Welder to join our dedicated team in a factory-based setting within Mochudi, Kgatleng District. As an Industrial Welder, you will be instrumental in the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of critical components for Botswana Railways’ rolling stock and railway infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Perform various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, Arc) on diverse materials, predominantly steel, according to job specifications.
- Read, interpret, and accurately execute work based on blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Inspect finished welds for quality, adherence to specifications, and compliance with industry and company safety standards.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Fabricate, repair, and modify metal structures and components for rolling stock and railway infrastructure.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, welding codes, and company regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, maintenance teams, and other technicians to complete projects on schedule.
- Conduct routine checks and preventive maintenance on welding equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve welding-related issues as they arise.
Required Skills
- Proven proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Arc welding).
- Strong understanding of welding safety standards, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Demonstrated meticulous attention to detail and precision in welding work.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks in an industrial environment.
- Effective problem-solving skills to address challenges during fabrication and repair.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial reasoning.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of metal properties and selection.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recognized welding certification (e.g., AWS Certified Welder, CWI or equivalent international certification).
- Previous experience in the rail, heavy machinery, automotive manufacturing, or heavy fabrication industry.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and various material properties for welding applications.
- Forklift operation certification or experience.
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping.
