Job Description
Are you passionate about sustainable agriculture and eager to make a tangible impact in northern communities? Career.zycto is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Agricultural Extension Trainee to join our growing team in Kam Lake, Yellowknife. This is an exceptional opportunity for an emerging professional to gain hands-on experience in agricultural development, community outreach, and applied research within a unique northern Canadian context. We are looking for individuals ready to immerse themselves in the challenges and rewards of promoting agricultural resilience in the North.
As an Agricultural Extension Trainee, you will play a crucial role in supporting the growth and resilience of local food systems. You will work closely with experienced agricultural specialists, local farmers, and community stakeholders to deliver essential information, training, and technical assistance. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve assisting with planning and executing field demonstrations, precise data collection for research projects, facilitating interactive workshops, and developing educational materials specifically tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities of northern agriculture. This includes everything from understanding critical aspects of soil health in permafrost regions and cold-climate crop varieties to promoting season extension techniques like greenhouses and effective northern livestock management practices. You will be at the forefront of innovative solutions designed to thrive in challenging environments.
This trainee position is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to all facets of agricultural extension. You will learn practical methods to identify community agricultural needs, assess the viability of different farming initiatives, and implement programs that genuinely foster sustainable practices and enhance local food security. The role demands a proactive individual who is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team, often requiring adaptability to challenging environmental conditions inherent to the North. If you are a natural problem-solver, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and are driven by a desire to contribute significantly to food security and economic diversification in the North, we strongly encourage you to apply. Career.zycto is deeply committed to your professional development, offering invaluable mentorship, continuous learning opportunities, and a supportive environment where your contributions are not just valued, but celebrated. Join us in shaping the future of agriculture in Yellowknife and beyond!
