Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering of poultry, ensuring access to fresh food and clean water.
- Monitor the health and well-being of the flock, identifying and reporting any signs of illness, injury, or distress to the supervisor.
- Collect eggs and maintain accurate records of production, feed consumption, and bird mortality.
- Clean and sanitize poultry houses, equipment, and surrounding areas regularly to maintain hygiene standards and prevent disease.
- Assist with vaccination, medication administration, and other animal health procedures as directed.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment safely and efficiently, performing minor repairs as needed.
- Ensure proper ventilation and temperature control within poultry houses for optimal bird comfort.
- Adhere strictly to all biosecurity protocols and safety guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of animal care and welfare principles.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and keen observation skills to detect changes in bird behavior or health.
- Reliable, punctual, and possessing a strong, proactive work ethic.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
- Good verbal communication skills for reporting and collaborating with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with poultry or in a general farm environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Knowledge of basic biosecurity measures and agricultural safety practices.
- Ability to adapt to flexible working hours, including occasional early mornings or evenings.
- A valid Jamaican driver's license (an asset but not required).
