Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general farm duties including land preparation, planting, cultivating, irrigating, weeding, and harvesting crops.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of farm machinery and equipment safely and efficiently, including hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Assist with the care and feeding of any farm animals, if applicable, including cleaning enclosures and monitoring their general well-being.
  • Prepare soil for planting by tilling, fertilizing, and applying appropriate soil amendments.
  • Implement pest and disease control measures under the supervision of senior farm staff.
  • Assist with the construction and ongoing maintenance of farm infrastructure, such as fences, irrigation systems, sheds, and other farm buildings.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization for all farm premises, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Strictly follow all established safety protocols and agricultural best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participate in basic farm record-keeping, noting essential data such as planting dates, yield information, and input usage.
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with other farm staff, supervisors, and community members to achieve production goals and project objectives.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of agricultural practices, including crop cultivation or general farm operations.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, which may include lifting heavy objects, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A genuine willingness to learn new skills, adapt to different farming techniques, and embrace continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous practical experience working on a farm, smallholding, or in a related agricultural setting.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of local agricultural conditions, challenges, and traditional farming methods in Lesotho.
  • Basic knowledge or experience in operating simple farm machinery (e.g., tillers, pumps) or hand tractors.
  • Completion of a vocational training program or certificate in agriculture, crop production, or a related field.
