Job Description
Volcano Express is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Car Mechanic to augment our dedicated garage service team in Nyamasheke, Western Province. This is a critical, hands-on role within our maintenance department, where you will be directly responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, paramount safety, and extended longevity of our diverse fleet of vehicles. As a Skilled Car Mechanic, your expertise will be instrumental in executing a comprehensive array of diagnostic, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks on various types of buses and essential support vehicles. Your responsibilities will encompass meticulous work on complex systems, including robust diesel engines, intricate braking systems, advanced transmission units, precise steering mechanisms, and comprehensive electrical and electronic components.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive routine maintenance tasks, including but not limited to, oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and vital fluid level checks, adhering to manufacturer specifications.
- Accurately diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues utilizing advanced specialized diagnostic tools and equipment, interpreting complex data.
- Conduct thorough and systematic inspections of all vehicles to proactively identify potential problems, anticipate failures, and ensure full compliance with rigorous safety and regulatory standards.
- Skillfully repair and replace faulty parts, complex components, and integrated systems, encompassing engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering components, and suspension systems.
- Efficiently troubleshoot and repair intricate electrical circuits, sophisticated wiring harnesses, and advanced electronic control systems (ECUs).
- Perform detailed engine overhauls, precise tune-ups, and comprehensive fuel system repairs on both diesel and petrol engines.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate digital and physical records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and hours expended.
- Strictly adhere to all workplace safety regulations, company policies, and best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
- Actively collaborate with fellow mechanics, technicians, and supervisors to share technical knowledge, optimize repair processes, and enhance team efficiency.
- Accurately order, manage, and track necessary parts and supplies, ensuring optimal inventory levels and minimizing waste.
- Provide technical guidance, practical training, and mentorship to junior mechanics or apprentices as required.
- Actively participate in ongoing professional development programs and continuous training sessions to remain current with evolving automotive technologies and repair methodologies.
Required Skills
- Proven extensive experience (4+ years) as a Car Mechanic, with significant exposure to heavy-duty vehicles or buses.
- Profound knowledge of all automotive systems, including advanced diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and complex electrical/electronic systems.
- Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing specialized diagnostic software and tools (e.g., advanced scan tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes).
- Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capabilities under pressure.
- Ability to proficiently read, interpret, and apply information from complex technical manuals, blueprints, and wiring schematics.
- Acute attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable workmanship.
- Required physical stamina, strength, and manual dexterity to perform demanding mechanical tasks in various conditions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Possession of a valid Rwandan driver's license (Category B or higher is highly preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced technical diploma or recognized certification in Automotive Mechanics, Diesel Technology, or a closely related engineering field.
- Prior experience with modern fleet maintenance management software systems (CMMS).
- In-depth knowledge of current Rwandan vehicle safety regulations, emissions standards, and inspection protocols.
- Familiarity with various bus manufacturers, models, and specialized transport vehicle types.
- Proficiency in speaking Kinyarwanda is considered a significant advantage for effective team and local community interaction.
