Job Description

Career.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and courageous Full-Time Wildlife Officer to join our team in Richmond, British Columbia. As a Wildlife Officer, you will be on the front lines, acting as a crucial link between the community and the environment. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct proactive patrols and surveillance to detect and prevent wildlife-related offenses such as poaching, illegal hunting, and habitat destruction.
- Investigate complaints pertaining to human-wildlife conflicts, injured animals, and violations of wildlife legislation.
- Enforce provincial and federal wildlife acts and regulations, issuing warnings, tickets, and preparing cases for prosecution.
- Collect and preserve evidence, prepare detailed reports, and provide testimony in court as required.
- Respond to wildlife-related emergencies, including managing dangerous wildlife encounters and assisting with injured or distressed animals.
- Engage with the public through educational programs, presentations, and community outreach to promote wildlife conservation and safety.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, government departments, Indigenous communities, and conservation groups.
- Conduct wildlife population monitoring and habitat assessments, contributing to data collection for management strategies.
- Maintain and operate specialized equipment, including vehicles, communication devices, and protective gear.
- Participate in training and professional development to stay current with best practices in wildlife management and enforcement.
Required Skills
- Proven knowledge of British Columbia's wildlife species, ecosystems, and conservation principles.
- Strong understanding of federal and provincial wildlife legislation (e.g., Wildlife Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act).
- Demonstrated experience in law enforcement, investigation, and evidence collection.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for public engagement and conflict resolution.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and remain calm in high-stress situations.
- Proficiency in navigation, outdoor survival skills, and operating in varied terrain and weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License and clean driving record.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding outdoor work.
- Proficiency with standard office software and report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Criminology, Law Enforcement, Natural Resource Management, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
- Experience with firearms and relevant certifications (e.g., Possession and Acquisition Licence PAL).
- Prior experience as a Conservation Officer, Park Ranger, or similar enforcement role.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols and traditional ecological knowledge.
- Experience with wildlife handling and capture techniques.
